LUKASHENKO TO THE RESCUE

The Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko, often called Europe’s last dictator by some circles, was already known to be the biggest ally and strategic partner of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. Their alliance decades-old friendship was mutually beneficial for both leaders considering Russia’s support for Lukashenko after the 2020 elections and Belarussian support for Putin after the Ukraine invasion in 2022. However, the recent events of the Wagner mutiny put the bilateral ties between these two isolated and sanctioned countries on a new level.
